Lately, I have been on a complete Harry Potter rampage! I have been reading the 7th book like crazy, and i have been watching a lot of the movies. It's actually quite interesting because I'm noticing some things that I haven't noticed before. Harry Potter has a lot of injustice in it, whether it's the unfair treatment of the elves, or the judgment of people who aren't pure-blood. That is the topic that is actually really important to me.
Harry Potter books are filled with all different kinds of people. There are "mudbloods", "squibs", and so many more. But, in Hogwarts some people seem to have a lot of problems with the people who aren't pure-bloods. So, Hermione will be harassed relentlessly because her parents are muggles. Mr. Filch will be whispered about because his parents are able to do magic, but he can't.
When you think about this, so many people in our world today, face these same problems, whether it is about race, sexuality, religion, etc. People come from so many different places and for some reason, other people can't just except that! Everyone is different. That's how it's supposed to be, right? I mean, you hear so many people tell you that the whole point of being different is to make the world creative and interesting. But people getting "poked" at for being different, seems to be exactly the opposite of what we are being told.
This also leads to peer pressure to be who your not. People, i guess, find it necessary to change themselves to "fit in" if it seems that they won't be excepted for who they are and where they come from. I find this extremley ridiculous, because, you know what, if people think that being you is stupid or where you come from is not "cool", than they aren't very "cool" people themselves.
Harry Potter (the books) are very similar to how our lives are. We go to school where we face all kinds of pressure to be who we are not. Some people aren't put to this test, but the question is, what would you do if you were?

i completely agree whit you. But that is one thing that makes hogwarts, hogwarts. It is the diversity of wizards there and how they come together and become 1. I love how you bring it outside of Harry Potter
ReplyDeletewell howdy doody!
ReplyDeletefirst of all, i think your voice is great - it is so important to have a personality in your writing, especially on the internet, and i think that was perfectly executed. I also thought your post was so well organized - you gave a great overview of the story without overdoing it, then you related in back to real life, which was awesome. awesome-tastic post, you are awarded the futterman seal of approval!
*shoop* (that was the sealing sound)
I like how you pointed out that most avid readers of harry potter over look the messages within the magical pages. You talked about the biggest message and you did it in a very professional way any i thought it was reallllllllly goooood!!!!!!
